UPL: Express, Bright Stars Share Spoils

Express FC and Bright Stars FC played to a one all draw on matchday two of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL).

Bright Stars’ Joseph Janjali cancelled out Frank Ssenyondo’s opener in an evenly contested game at Betway Muteesa ll Stadium at Wankulukuku.

Both teams came in the game in search for first points of the season after loosing their first respective fixtures – Express had lost to BUL while Bright Stars were 3-1 losers against Vipers.

Express looked more hungrier and were ready to bank on home support. Th Red Eagles took an early lead when, in just 3 minutes, Ssenyondo fired at near post from a rebound after Nicholas Sebwato had spilled Frank Kalanda’s shot.

Few minutes after Ssenyondo’s goal, Kalanda had a chance to double the lead but his shot went wide after beating the goalkeeper.

After ten minutes into the game, the hunter become the hunted, Bright Stars started to pick momentum and inserted pressure on the hosts – Express conceded five corner kicks in as many minutes.

Bright Stars, through Jungu Methodius, continued to press Express to the limit Junju’s through pass caught Express’s backline off guard to meet Janjali who dribbled past goalkeeper Joshua Adea to score in an empty net.

In the first 15 minutes of the second stanza, both coaches introduced in fresh legs to change proceedings but all in vain.

Ssemwogere brought in Joshua Musoke and Axel Konen to replace Peter Musoke and Serukwaya Dennis who had been booked in the first half.

Bright Stars brought in Andrew Kyambadde and Juma Ssebaduka to replace Enock Walusimbi and Kacancu Augustine.

Express could have snatched all points when unmarked Konen collected from Ssenyondo but his effort went over the bar.

Ssenyondo was named man of the match.

Express will host Onduparaka on Saturday, September 7th while Bright Stars will visit Busoga United on the same day.
