UPL: SC Villa Put Three Past Mbarara

SC Villa pummeled Mbarara City 3-1 in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter played on floodlights at Namboole.

David Owori benefited from Ronald Otti’s short back pass before scoring low past Tom Ikara in the 36th minute.

Emma Kalyowa doubled the advantage before halftime when a squeezed a shot through Villa traffic.

Brian Aheebwa brought one back for the Ankole Lions to halve the deficit in the 73rd minute but Ambrose Kirya restored Villa’s two goal advantage with a powerful shot.

Coming into the game, the hosts needed a positive result after falling to Kyetume FC 1-0 in their opener.

Edward Kaziba’s side had a strong start but they looked blunt in front of the goal. Owori and Bashir Mutanda both were denied by the woodwork while Kirya also fluffed a keeper to beat opportunity later in the second half.

Brian Ssenyondo’s Ankole Lions who beat Proline 3-0 in their opener at Luzira, had Paul Mucureezi shoot direct at Saidi Keni from a freekick while Ibrahim Orit shot over the bar.

Both sides return to action on Saturday with SC Villa making a short trip to Lugogo to face Proline FC while Mbarara will face Police FC at Kabaka Kyabaggu Stadium in Wakiso.
