Express FC registered its first win of the 2019/20 StarTimes UPL season after edging a five goal thriller.

The Red Eagles, coming into matchday four with just one point, edged Mbarara City FC 3-2 at Luzira prisons.

Hilary Mukundane put Mbarara in the lead in the 44th minute with a good freekick but George Ssimwogerere’s charges fought back to level matters two minutes later before halftime thanks to Hamdan Nsubuga who slotted home after Mbarara failed to clear from the corner.

In 64th minute, Kalanda slotted in an empty net after beautiful work from Disan Galiwango who challenged Mukundane before his cross beat goalkeeper Ssekeba.

Substitute Jude Semugabi who came in for Okwalinga Solomon leveled matters in 82nd minute with a wide range shot to give goalkeeper Joshua Adea no chance.

Daniel Shabena scored a late winner in the 90th minute from a rebound after Ssekeba spilled Galiwango’s effort.

The visitors looked a better side on the day and could have scored more – Nsubuga’s shot was denied by the woodwork while Kalanda forced Ssekeba into a fine save.

The Ankole Lions will on the other hand regret two clear chances missed by Paul Mucureezi including a keeper-to-beat. Okwalinga also had an opportunity to score but shot direct at Adea.

This is the second loss for Brian Ssenyondo who had earlier lost to SC Villa. The side has four points from a win and a draw against Proline and Police respectively.

Express will face rivals SC Villa in their next match on Friday Wankulukuku while Mbarara will face Vipers SC.
