Uganda Cranes acting head coach Abdallah Mubiru will be aiming at improving the team’s weak spots before facing Burundi in the 2020 CHAN Qualifiers.

Mubiru believes that the big concern for the team is defense transition – How the players recover after losing possession.

“We have been working on defensive transition, it’s a big area where we need to improve,” Mubiru told the-SportsNation.com.

“We have problems to react immediately when we lose possession; The way we reorganize ourselves to try to stop opponents from accessing our area.”

The coach believes that Uganda will be good to go if the players can alternate well between attack and defence with ease.

The other light concern is the attendance where about 11 players of the 32 summoned attended Friday training, however, the coach seemed not concerned.

“We knew before we summoned the team that we had to be without some players since there are still ongoing club engagements,” he explained. “Still, we are working with the few here and we planned for this. It has not disrupted our program because we were aware “

John Revita missed Friday’s session due to family issues. Mbarara City FC’s Paul Mucureezi trained despite having a big game on Saturday against Vipers.

Cranes knocked out Somalia and will be targeting a positive result in Bujumbura against Burundi who eliminated South Sudan.

The South Sudan – Burundi second leg was played in Kampala, Lugogo to b specific after the northern neighbours opted to host outside their country due to political instabilities back home. This gave Mubiru an advantage to watch his next opponents.

In his judgement, Mubiru said that Burundi will not be a walkover but Cranes failure to each CHAN tourney will be disastrous.

“Burundi is a very good side, very experienced and they use the ball very well but we have come to a point that if we fail to qualify, it will be disastrous because we have always qualified for the last four editions.”

On the team summoned, he explained that each player in the league has a chance to represent the country given that his form is convincing. He noted that the new players like Edirisa Lubega are expected to add quality and value to the team.
