UPL: Bayo’s Brace Not Enough As Vipers Draw Mbarara

Fahad Bayo scored a brace but his efforts proved not enough as Vipers shared spoils with Mbarara City FC on matchday five of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

Vipers were held 2-2 at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Bayo slotted home in the 65th minute to cancel Ibrahim Orit’s opener. He later put the hosts in the lead with a header off Allan Kayiwa’s cross with 10 minutes left on the clock.

Hillary Mukundane denied Vipers maximum points with an 83rd minute strike when he bundled home after substitute Brian Aheebwa headed in his way.

Bayo, a new signing, has now scored five goals for the Venoms this season. He scored a double against KCCA FC in the Super Eight Finals and his lone strike gave 10 man Vipers maximum points against Tooro United.

Vipers coach Edward Golola made many changes from the team that picked a laboured 1-0 win against Tooro United. Rashid Toha was handed his league debut, Derrick Ochan replaced Fabien Mutombora in the posts, Aziz Kayondo was deployed in place of suspended Farouk Musisi, while Tito Okello and Denis Mwemezi all started the game.

The introduction of Abram Ndugwa and Dan Sserunkuma gave Vipers presence in the attack but the Ankole Lions answered back all questions the hosts posed.

Mohammed Ssekeba made a double save to deny Rahmat Senfuka and Bayo in spilt seconds while Kayiwa, Ndugwa and Nkuubi all had efforts off the target.

In the first half, Mbarara could have taken an early lead but Ibrahim Orit’s shot hit the low post in the 9th minute.

The result leaves Vipers with seven points as the side had won their two opening games against Bright Stars and Tooro United.

Mbarara City FC has collected five points from as many games – They beat Proline, drew with Police FC, lost to Express and SC Villa.

Vipers will visit SC Villa on Wednesday, October 2 in a night game at Namboole while Mbarara City FC will host Busoga United on October 1 at Luzira.
