Nkumba Lady Marines have their faith in star player Brenda Ekone to eliminate KIU Rangers as the sides meet in game one of the NBL Playoffs quarter finals at Lugogo.

With the departure of JKL Lady Dolphins’ Jamila Zama Nansikombi, Ekone remains by far the lady star attraction at the moment.

Her heroic performances have dragged Nkumba to the playoffs, and am not taking away much from other good players at Nkumba like Fina Busingye, Catherine Haruri, Susan Becca Aanyau among others.

She has scored 400 points, the best tally in the league. Judith Ayo (KCCA, 250), Hope Akello (JKL, 238), Ruth Atuheire (A1, 228) have come closest.

The Gazelles guard also leads the tally for most steals (52) and most free-throws made (93) in the league.

“We are well prepared, we have been working on our shots, free throws, working on our defence too has been key in our training seasions, speed and agility, so I believe the team is ready for the battle right at hand (playoffs ), knowing the mere fact that our opponents are just any other hard rock to crack,” Ekone told the-SportsNation.com.

Nkumba won both games against KIU in the regular season. They won 59-51 and 65-54 in first and second round respectively.
