The annual Kabalega Rally has been officially launched and just like the last four seasons, the event will be hosted in Hoima district.
The launch was held on Tuesday at Kabusu in Kampala where it was revealed that the event will officially begin with a vintage car show on Thursday, 17th October before scrutineering the following day while the competition will start on Saturday and end on Sunday.
“There will be two stages running before the Super Special at Kontiki Hotel,” noted Clerk of Course Justin Mungoma. “The morning stages will give spectators an early glimpse of their favourite drivers. Later, fans shall be entertained with drifting.”
Kabalega rally consist six stages – Kyentale (18.02km), Kikwata Miigo (11.42km), Musaija Mukuru (21.11km), World Wide Movers (26.35km), Bugambe Tea (17.73km) and Kitooba (31.52km).
A total distance of 303 kilometers will be covered (Competitive – 173.8km, Liaison 129.2km).
The rally has received a financial boost as Total has come on board as sponsors. The petroleum company joins World Wide Movers, Uganda Communication Commission, Chonquig International construction company, Kontik Hotel among others.
Mungona added that they (UMOSPOC) will continue to strive for safety and asked all participants to abide by the traffic regulations.
It should be noted that the Kabalega rally is the penultimate round on this year’s National Rally Championship.
Hassan Alwi is the two time defending champion of the Kabalega rally after beating Susan Muwonge to finish in top position last year.
Arthur Blick Junior will seek to capitalise on the recent momentum that saw him win in Fort Portal recently to end a four year jinx.
Yasin Nasser/Ali Katumba leads the standings with 355 points followed by Ronald Ssebuguzi/Leone Ssenyange and Arthur Blick/George Ssemakula with 300 and 285 points in that order.
