Ivan Lumanyika was in starring role as JKL beat Betway Power 75-64 in game two at YMCA to level a best of three series one and force a decider set on Monday.

Coming into game two at YMCA, JKL needed more than a miracle to survive a sweep following an abysmal display in game one that saw them fall 35-74.

Lumanyika who was the only bright spot in JKL’s game one loss, proved to be the team’s knight in a pulsating game two played on a cold Friday night at YMCA.

The former KIU and Power big man collected a double double of 23 points and 14 rebounds, adding four assists in a player of the match performance.

Lumanyika dominated Power’s big men including Philip Ameny and Libe Makala and had his biggest highlight come in form of a tremendous chase down block against Amini Mkosa down the stretch.

Power had taken a slender 32-30 halftime lead but JKL put up a commanding third quarter – winning it 30-18 – to overturn the deficit before edging the last quarter 15-14 to seal a thrilling comeback.

Henry Malinga’s side fluffed on the line, missing 12 of 22 freethrows, but managed to compensate their inefficiency with 27 points off the bench.

Jude Ochen who was shockingly given less time in game one, scored 19 points in game two while the evergreen Brian Namake contributed 17 points for the Mukono based Dolphins.

Joseph Ikong and Ameny had 12 points each and were the only Power players to score in double figures in a team performance Power fans will want to forget easily.
