UPL: Tough Lunchtime Kickoff Awaits Villa, Busoga

Uganda Premier League board has made a strange decision to change Busoga-Villa game’s kickoff from 4PM to 1PM.

SC Villa travel to the Mighty Arena to face Busoga United on matchday seven of the StarTimes UPL this Saturday.

In a letter seen by this website, signed by UPL CEO Bainamani Bernard Bampaire, cites the initial clash in kickoff times between the UPL game and the CECEFA U20 Challenge Cup final at Njeru.

“Reference is made to the confirmation of FUFA Technical Centre-Njeru as the venue for CECAFA U-20 Boys Challenge Cup final scheduled for Saturday 5th October 2019, 4:00pm,” reads a letter in part.

“Accordingly, M# 55 Busoga United FC Vs SC Villa (Saturday 5th October 2019) match kick off time has been brought forward from 4:00pm to 1:00pm.The venue remains The Mighty Arena-Jinja. Note that the two venues are a short distance apart.

“All parties are advised to take note of the change.
The Secretariat regrets any inconvenience caused.”

The affected teams – Villa and Busoga United – will feel hard done by the decision as the players will have to endure the hot lunchtime sunshine in what promises to be a highly contested clash.

It’s also not known whether Busoga United will be able to pull enough crowd at the time, while the same applies to SC Villa and their fans whose travelling plans to Jinja will have to be adjusted accordingly.

The previous meeting between the two sides at the Mighty Arena last season ended in a 2-2 draw with Joel Madondo scoring a brace. Bashir Mutanda and Joseph Ssemujju scored for the record winners.

SC Villa who drew goalless with Vipers in a recent night game are third on the 16 team log while Busoga United who have lost two games on a trot are ninth.
