UPL: Mukwala’s Late Strike hands Maroons Narrow Win

Maroons FC beat Mbarara City FC 2-1 in a UPL Match-day Eight encounter at Luzira prisons grounds.

Pius Obuya and Steven Mukwara scored for the visitors after Jude Semugaba had put the Ankole Lions in the lead.

The win sees Maroons return to winning ways after two consecutive losses against BUL and Onduparaka.

The Prison Warders, with four wins, move fifth on the log with 12 points while Mbarara are 11th with eight points.

Ibrahim Orit had Mbarara’s first chance to before his free header went wife.

Coach Paul Nkata made an early substitute where Brian Aheebwa paved way for Eyam.

Obuya scored from an empty net to put Maroons in the lead after Mukwala had beaten goalkeeper Tom Ikara in the 27th minute.

Jude Semugabi equalized in the 80th minute from a rebound after Sebwalunyo Hannington failed to humble a harmless shot.

Mbarara looked more lively after an equalizer as Maroons lived on borrowed time.

The hosts came close taking a lead but Wol Makueth had a goal keeper to beat but his last touch proved to be poor.

In added minutes, Maroons found a winner with Mukwala scoring from a beautiful header from Obuya’s corner kick to send the fans in wild celebrations.

Mbarara will face URA while Maroons will host Villa SC.
