*Police 1-3 SC Vipers
The 2017/18 league champions Vipers SC came from a goal down to overcome a reckless Police FC side on match-day eight of the StarTimes UPL.
The Venoms won 3-1 at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.
Paul Willa cancelled out Hood Kaweesa’s opener before Halid Lwaliwa and Abdul Karim Watambala completed a comeback.
The victory, fourth from six attempts, sends Vipers temporarily third place with 14 points while Abdallah Mubiru’s side are second from the bottom with two points.
League top scorer Fahad Bayo nearly came close to putting Vipers in the lead but his powerful header went wide.
However, it was Police who had a strong start – Yusuf Ssozi beat Aziz Kayondo on the right flank to find Hood Kaweesa who directed a strong header past Fabien Mutombora in the 27th minute.
Hilary Jomi was at fault for Vipers’ equaliser when he intentionally left Willa’s weak effort crawl into the net at the half hour mark.
Lwaliwa put Vipers in-front with a brushed header from a tight angle from Watambala’s corner at the strokebof halftime.
Watambala made it three for the Visitors, squeezing a shot past substitute goalkeeper Davies Mutebi with ten minutes remaining on the clock.
Tony Kiwalazi cleared Willa’s effort off the line after vipers had put endless attacks while Vipers’ Lwaliwa also cleared away Yusuf Ssozi’s chance on the line.
Mutombora was forced into double saves from Samson Kigozi and Pius Kaggwa as the hosts tried to stage a comeback but it proved late.
Vipers host Express on match day nine at the st.Marys stadium as Police visit Busoga United on Saturday.
