*Vipers 3-0 Express
Fahad Bayo bagged a brace to lift Vipers past Express FC on match-day nine of the 2019/20 StarTimes UPL at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
Brian Kalumba, who replaced Dan Mzee Sserunkuma, scored a late third as Vipers cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory against rivals.
The former Buildcon striker takes his scoring tally to six in the league – He also scored two against Mbarara, one each against Tooro and Proline.
The win takes Vipers to second place with 17 points while Express, who had won two successive games, remain on 10 points.
“It was not our day, we okayed to our best but I think we gave them too much space. We tactically lost concentration in the second half. We have to go back and rectify our mistakes,” noted Express’ assistant coach James Magala.
Bayo was put through by Bobosi Byaruhanga before slotting past Tony Kyamera in the seventh minute.
He got his second after running behind defenders thanks to Brian Kalumba’s pass before bundling home in the 73rd minute in an impressive build up that involved Paul Willa and Bobosi.
Kalumba put the game to bed when he got space upfront to fire far from goalkeeper Tony Kyamera in the 88th minute.
Despite conceding an early goal, Express had some brilliant moments and threatened going forward but lacked the cutting edge.
Mohammed Yiga had his shot parried out by Fabien Mutombora before Daniel Shabena headed out the resultant corner.
Frank Ssenyondo and Kalanda had various efforts on goal but failed to get past Mutombora.
The Venoms could have scored more; Bobosi, Paul Willa and substitute Frank Zaga shot over the bar while Aziz Kayondo forced Kyamera into an outstanding save.
Vipers who are yet to lose a game, and have won three in a row, will face Kyetume at Namboole before visiting Busoga United.
The Ref Eagles will face Busoga at home before visiting Wakiso Giants.
