Uganda Cranes: Vipers Youngster Named On CHAN team

Vipers young midfielder Abdul Karim Watambala has been summoned on the Uganda Cranes provisional team that is preparing to face Burundi.

The team started non-residential training on Sunday, October 13, 2019 at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo under coach Abdallah Mubiru who will later be joined by Jonathan Mckinstry later on Monday evening.

Uganda who beat Burundi 3-0 away in Bujumbura will host the side in the return leg on October 19.

Watambala is among the 25-man squad after convincing the selectors with his impressive display with Vipers.

The young midfielder has been integral with the Venoms in the league, and had earlier shown his worth on his competitive debut when he was named man of the match against Proline FC in a Super Eight campaign that saw the Venoms beat KCCA in the final to clinch the second edition.

He is among the three players – Jacob Okao and Richard Basangwa – who were promoted to the Vipers senior team before the start of this season from the Junior team that featured in FUFA Junior league.

Watambala was also part of the St Mary’s secondary school, Vipers’ feeder, that won the 2019 Copa Coca cola cup after beating Jinja SS 3-1 in finals held in Jinja.

He is expected to get comfort from Vipers teammates Paul Willa, Halid Lwaliwa, Fahad Bayo and Dan Sserunkuma who have also been summoned.
