Stephen Omony put up a strong performance as City Oilers eased past Ethiopia’s Hawassa on the second day of the group D of Basketball Africa League qualifiers in Dar Es Salam, Tanzania.

The Ugandan representatives led 51-22 at halftime before adding 24-13 and 25-14 in the third and last quarter respectively to seal a comfortable win.

This was the second win from as many games for the two time Zone five Champions. They beat Burundi’s Dynamo 71-57 in their opener on Wednesday.

Oilers return to action on Friday against hosts JKT and a win will improve their chances of clinching one of the two needed spots to reach the next round.

Omony who is the Captain of Uganda’s senior basketball national team, Silverbacks, scored a game high 21 points.

The veteran forward – whose year has been ruined by injuries, missing the entire NBL regular season and Silverbacks’ Zone five campaign – shot 3-4 from downtown and added four rebounds against Hawassa.

Jordin Mayes hit 16, Landry Ndikumana and youngster Ivan Muhwezi added 15 and 14 points in that order.
