UPL: Vipers Extend Lead Atop

Vipers strengthened their lead at the summit of the StarTimes UPL with a laboured 2-1 win against Kyetume FC at Namboole.

Veteran striker Robert Ssentongo benefited from Halid Lwaliwa’s slip to halve the deficit for Kyetume in the second half after Fahad Bayo and Mzee Dan Sserunkuma had given Vipers an early lead but the Slaughters failed incur further damage.

Bayo headed in from Bashir Asiku’s cross in the third minute to take his tally to seven goals.

The former Buildcon forward was later tripped in the box by Benon Tahomera for referee Brian Miiro to point from the spot. Sserunkuma beat Joel Mutakubwa from the spot to double the advantage.

The victory takes unbeaten Vipers to 24 points, moving four above BUL who drew one all against Bright Stars. Kyetume who suffered their fourth loss remain on 13 points.

Sserunkuma had a bog chance on goal but shot wide while Karim Watambala had his effort easily collected by Mutakubwa after beautiful build up that involved Allan Kayiwa and Bobosi Byaruhanga.

Mutakubwa also denied Bayo when the striker was put through on goal, to reduce further damage.

At the other end, Sharif Ssaka had many good opportunities at goal but failed to bury any. Tahomera headed over Kayizzi’s corner while substitute Denis Lubowa fluffed his effort wide at point blank range.
