UPL: Mukwala, Maroons Detain Police

Saturday, November 2
*Maroons 2-1 Police FC

Steven Mukwala was the hero as Maroons recovered from a goal down to beat Police FC.

The striker, on loan from Vipers, benefited from Police’s sloppy defending to score a brace as Maroons won 2-1 at Luzira Prisons Grounds.

Police who had beaten Wakiso in similar fashion at Lugogo, were on course for their second straight win when Ben Ocen scored early in the second half but failed to hold on for maximum points. Ocen was later sent off as Police FC finished the game a man down.

The victory push Maroons in sixth position with 16 points from 10 games while Police remain 15th with only five points.

Maroons face Express in their next league encounter as police host URA FC.

How The Drama Unfolded:

Police looked a better side right from onset, making threatening attacks. They would have gotten the lead in the 20th minute but Hood Kaweesa’s goal was ruled out for offside.

Maroons custodian Ssebwalunyo Hannington denied Pius Kaggwa before the hosts suffered a setback when Solomon Walusimbi limped off for William Kiibi.

Kiibi had a chance to convert from his first touch put his shot on goal was not good enough.

Maroons came close again but Police’s goalkeeper Davis Mutebi was equal to Timothy Bamulanzeki’s effort.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute when Ocen tapped in an empty net from from Kaweesa’s assist who had left Sebwalunnyo Hannington crawling on the ground.

Substitute Samson Kigozi who had replaced Fahad kizito at the start of second stanza, had a chance to double the lead but his first touch proved too weak.

Douglas Bamweyana’s charges missed double chances to respond when Kiibi shot far wide before Mukwala’s shot was deflected by Joseph Sentume into side netting.

Mukwala floated in the air to head in an equalizer at the right corner from Olega Ceaser’s curled delivery for an equaliser in the 85th minute.

Mukwala scored what proved to be the winner after dazzling past Police defenders in the 87th minute.

Ocen received a red card after a clumsy challenge on Abraham Tusubira.
