Coach-less Wakiso Giants will have former player Steven Bengo in the dugout when they visit leaders Vipers on match-day 12 of the StarTimes UPL at Kitende.
This follows a recent club decision to sack head coach Kefa Kisala after a string of poor results highlighted by a 3-0 home loss against Express and a 2-1 loss at Police.
“The club and Kisala have mutually agreed to terminate the employment contract,” reads a letter sent to the media on Monday.
“In the meantime, the club has appointed former player Steven Bengo as caretaker and preparations to announce a new chapter and new head coach.”
Bengo has been working as a trainer at the club since announcing his retirement at the start of the season. He played for Wakiso as the club got promoted from the Big league this season.
Vipers Look To Extend Lead
The Venoms are top with 27 points and will be banking on home support to overcome Wakiso Giants.
Vipers needed a late Bobosi Byaruhanga goal to win at Busoga United in a spirited performance and will look to double their efforts against a wounded side that all but match their quality on paper.
“It’s an amazing win. We worked hard for it but deserved it more, l thought,” Vipers captain Halid Lwaliwa told the club website after the laboured victory at Busoga. “The performance was good and the chances we created were very good though we needed more sharpness in front; the goalkeeper made some top saves. We kept going, showed great mentality and deservedly got the three points.”
Wakiso have all the material needed to stop Vipers, and will bank on Viane Ssekajugo who has scored four this season. However, it remains to be known if their defence can handle leading goalscorer Fahad Bayo who has notched seven.
Wakiso Giants’ Ibrahim Kiyemba, Duncan Sseninde and Tom Masiko, on loan from Vipers, are ineligible to feature against parent club.
