Uganda Christian University are the 2019 University Football League champions.
The Mukono-based University beat St Lawrence 2-1 in a pulsating affair at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.
Ezra Kaye Kizito scored a goal in either half while Misi Ssemugera’s effort proved to be a consolation for the Rubaga based campus.
Playing their first final, UCU who beat Bugema in the semis had a strong start when Kaye squeezed the opener at near post.
Ibrahim Kasule came close to levelling matters but fired wide.
UCU thought they had doubled their advantage wheb Joseph Kakembo had a goal disallowed for offside after a good cross from Sharif Lubega at the left flank.
In the second stanza, UCU continued from where they had stopped – Vicent Adriko rattled the crossbar before Kaye made it two.
Substitute Isaaya Sabiiti had a shot saved before curling over the bar in quick succession as St Lawrence looked for a goal.
Tito Ssematimba also fired over the bar before Bruno Bunyango was denied by UCU keeper Derrick Were.
Mark Nsubuga beat the keeper but his shot failed to protrude through the traffic.
St Lawrence’s surge paid off when Ssemugera scored from close range, sending his effort at the far corner to make it 2-1.
St Lawrence almost leveled late on, but Ssematimba headed over the bar from Sabiiti’s cross.
