UPL: Solomon Okwalinga’s Brace Lifts Mbarara Past Onduparaka

Solomon Okwalinga scored a brace, including a 90th minute winner, as Mbarara City beat Onduparaka 2-1 to return to winning ways at Kakyeka Stadium, Mbarara.

Rajab Kakooza equalised the game for the Caterpillars before Okwalinga’s late minute strike earned Mbarara maximum points.

Mbarara were playing their first game since the departure of Paul Nkata.

The side, under Brian Ssenyondo, move to 13 points after their first win in seven games.

Back At Best?

Mbarara had gone four straight games without scoring a goal and six without winning.

Okwalinga scored in the 18th minute, against his former side, to send the home fans into wild celebrations.

Gadafi Gadinho, also facing his former side, had a fantastic display and was named man of the match.

Ibrahim Orit had a chance to double the lead in first half but rifled over the crossbar. While Brian Ahebwa and Swalik Bebe all missed their chances as the Ankole Lions dominated proceedings.

Onduparaka equalised in the 76th minute when Rashid Kakooza headed in Wahab Gadafi’s freekick but the side failed to hold on before Okwalinga’s late strike in the 90th minute.

Onduparaka FC who had beaten Kyetume 7-1 in their last encounter, will host SC Villa on Sunday while Mbarara will be at home against Kyetume.
