Exclusive: South Sudan To Field Uganda Players

All is set for the 2019 CECAFA Women Senior challenge cup that kicks off on Saturday as hosts Tanzania take on underdogs South Sudan in their bid to defend the title.

The hosts who also double as the top favourites from group B will face a South Sudan team with a couple of Uganda players.

UCU Lady cardinals that plays in the FUFA Women Super League in Uganda, have four players who are going to feature for the young nation.

Nabbagala Jauhara, Nabulobi Mercy, Kwagala Joan And Nakirijja were all seen at Nairobi Airport clad in the south Sudanese Colours while Lady Doves’ Esther Namaganda is also part of the South Sudanese team.

The above players were born not only in Uganda but by Ugandan parents and also carry Ugandan names, it is known.

However, a source has hinted that South Sudan has already fulfilled the required paper work that enable the players feature for the country.

Also, more yet unidentified Ugandan players will feature in the tournament for different nations.

It should be noted that South Sudan women team is participating in CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup for the first time in their football history.

The team, coached by Moses Machar Akol, is placed in group A alongside defending champions and hosts Tanzania, Burundi and Zanzibar.

The side, nicknamed Bright Stars will open against Kilimanjaro Queens (Tanzania) as they hope to finish among the top two in the group to qualify for the knockout.

South Sudan became a full FIFA member in July 2012 after gaining independence from Sudan in 2011.
