With his availability – not to mention his fitness – in doubt, captain Jimmy Enabu was introduced in the second quarter amidst a standing ovation from a section of City Oilers’ faithfuls and he managed to put the six time defending champions on his back past Warriors.

The Oilers beat two time champions Warriors 62-53 and take game one bragging rights in the NBL playoffs semis on Friday at MTN Indoor Arena in Lugogo.

Shorthanded Oilers who missed injured Francis Chisioke Azolibe, Stephen Omony and Jonathan Egau, dominated from onset and managed to fend off all resistance from Ronnie Mutebi’s Warriors.

Fans have taken delight of every minute Enabu is spending on court after they got to learn that his basketball career is slowly coming to an end because of the busy schedule since joining aviation academy.

The guard, coming from the Enabu family which is well respected in basketball circles, shot 6-of-12 from the field to collect 12 points.

Tonny Drilleba and Landry Ndikumana managed 17 and nine points respectively, the duo, together with James Okello added 11 rebounds each.

Chris Omanye contributed 14 points, Stanley Mugerwa and Gatwech Kutai had 12 and 11 points respectively for the Warriors.

Warriors were completely overmatched and out-hustled at both ends of the court by a side that struggled with size.

Warriors who missed Jonathan Kambala, managed 11 points off the bench against Oilers’ 22 as they shot an ugly 27% from the field.

Amisi Saidi, popularly known as Carmelo shot 0-of-10 from the field in a game he managed just one point although he grabbed 11 rebounds while Buzangu and Mark Opiyo were both 3 for 10 from the field.

The sides meet again on Monday in game two with the first to win three reach the finals.
