Muzamir Mutyaba’s first half deflected strike proved the difference as KCCA managed to overcome leaders Vipers in a sell-out league game played on Saturday at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.

Mustafa Kizza’s long ball found Erisa Ssekisambu who beat Aziz Kayondo at the corner flag before finding Muzamir who connected home past Fabien Mutombora just after the hour mark.

KCCA end Vipers’ unbeaten run this season after 13 games – 16 including those of last season. Their last league loss was against URA at Kitende on Friday, May 19 last season.

KCCA were good value for the result, especially in the first half were they could have scored more than once including Mustafa’s swinging effort that rattled the crossbar.

Vipers who greatly missed target man Fahad Bayo, looked a shadow of themselves before the introduction of Allan Kayiwa whose late effort was parried away by Jamal Malyamungu who had a field day.

The victory leaves KCCA in fifth with 22 points, 11 behind leaders Vipers on 33.

Vipers Endure Torture In First 30 Minutes

KCCA made their intentions known just from onset and could have finished the tie as early as the first 15 minutes.

Muzamir hit his freekick direct at Mutombora after Mike Mutyaba was fouled by centre back Bashir Asiku.

Mustafa was denied by the woodwork before Ssekisambu who was facing his former club fumbled with the rumbled and Aziz Kayondo cleared away to safety.

Ssekisambu also had a big chance to score but fired weakly on target after receiving from Mutyaba inside the area.

Mustafa directed his freekick over the bar after Siraje Ssentamu handled the ball at the edge of the box while Nunda headed out after Ssekisambu had beat two Vipers defenders on the left.

After the introduction of Kayiwa who replaced Innocent Wafula in the second half, the Venoms looked a threat.

Kayiwa was beaten by Gift Ali on his first ball when the tricky winger tried to protrude through but a resultant freekick was put to waste.

The former Tooro player strolled from left flank, and found Brian Nkuubi whose half bicycle kick was just off target as the Venoms tried to mount a challenge.

What the Result mean?

KCCA are 11 points behind Vipers. The defending Champions have five games while Vipers are remaining with one match to end the first round.

Vipers’ last first round game is against Maroons at Luzira.

KCCA still have URA, SC Villa, Mbarara, Proline and Kyetume.
