UCU Lady Canons’ forward Zainah Lokwameri says that her side has what it takes to overcome KCCA Leopards in the best of five semifinal series.

Lokwameri hit 15 points, two rebounds and five assists in a player of the match performance to lift UCU past KCCA on Monday at YMCA.

The result, 59-57 in favour of UCU, saw the University team level the series 1-1 after falling 71-56 in game one.

“In the first game we didn’t fight, we let them score whenever they had the opportunity. We had poor team defence and execution on offence,” Lokwameri told the-SportsNation.com after the encounter at YMCA.

“So definitely our coaches took us back to all the details of why we lost and tried to patch that up.”

The Canons only managed to score two points in the first 10 minutes but rallied back to win the second quarter 21-9.

Despite KCCA’s third quarter triumph, the Canons exerted their dominance in the last quarter to knot the mouthwatering clash.

Lokwameri, who has averaged 13 points and six rebounds this season, scored 15 points while Rose Akon scored as many before Sarah Ageno added nine points in a laboured win.

UCU were 24-of-75 from the field but made just three shots from downtown out of 24 attempts!

“I had to do my best for my team and I owe them that. KCCA is a good team with good players so we have to be tough mentally, play team defence and execute accordingly,” she added.
