John Odumegwu: Mutebi Defends Nigerian Forward

When target man Patrick Kaddu left KCCA FC for Moroccan side RS Berekane, there was a question on who would fill the void.

Steven Sserwadda, Sadat Anaku and John Odumegwu were the natural forwards at the club to fill Kaddu’s big boots.

With Anaku and Sserwadda still in their teen years, new Nigerian signing Odumegwu had to carry the big burden. However, the powerful forward has failed to live as advertised so far.

“Odumegwu is a great player who is trying to fit in our way of play when you look at the games he has had,” commented Coach Mike Mutebi.

The forward made less impact before he was taken off in the 50th minute, to be replaced by youngster Sserwadda, as KCCA drew one all against Sam Ssimbwa’s URA on Wednesday.

“He will be an important player to us as we we try to negotiate on regaining the title.”

“We didn’t bring him to solve our problems immediately, he is a player trying to fit in our system and with time we believe he will be there where we need him.”

Odumegwu had his debut away from home when KCCA FC lost to Tooro United in a game where he managed to win a penalty that was later missed by Mike Mutyaba.

Odumegwu who has scored one goal (against Maroons), has managed to play eight out of the 11 games KCCA has played in the league; starting four.
