*Kenya 5-0 Burundi
*Tanzania 1-0 Uganda
An injury time strike from Asha Saar Rashid ended all Uganda’s hopes of a gold medal at this year’s CECAFA Women senior challenge Cup.
With just two minutes left form the added four, a cross from Mwana Hamisi Omary found a free and unmarked Asha who dashed the ball past an already beaten Ruth Arturo, sending the home fans into wild celebrations.
Considering their previous results, Tanzania had struggled against the Crested Cranes thanks to the team’s well executed defensive tactics.
Coach Farida Bulega had introduced Aisha Namukisa who made the team more compact at the back.
As both teams played cautiously, Uganda had a Juliet Nalukenge goal cancelled for offside and a penalty appeal in the closing minutes of the game also went unanswered from the referee.
Asked to comment about the game, Bulega was as silent as a graveyard, and after in a rather miserable but raised voice said: “Protocol observed, I have no comment on the game.”
Uganda will play Burundi in the third play off game on Monday before the final between Kenya and Tanzania gets underway at 4PM.
