*Uganda 2-0 Burundi
Two second half goals from substitutes Aminah ‘Dancing Rasta’ Nababi and Shamirah Nalujja gave Uganda Crested Cranes a 2-0 win against Burundi in a bronze medal match at the 2019 CECAFA Women Senior Challenge Cup.
Replacing Fazillah Ikwaput, Aminah Nababi struck home in the 61st minute before Shamirah Nalujja who came in for Nabbosa Leticia doubled the advantage with nine minutes to stoppage time.
Uganda played the classification game after losing two consecutive games to finalists Kenya and Tanzania. The Crested Cranes suffered a loss against Kenya in their last group game before falling hosts Tanzania at the semis.
“It has been a wonderful platform for the girls and technical team altogether. With time, we shall produce a formidable team that can compete favourably in regional and continental tournaments,” noted coach Faridah Bulega.
This was Crested Cranes’ third CECAFA appearance from 2016 when she hosted and 2018 in Rwanda.
Women football fraternity will now shift focus to the CECAFA U-17 championship that goes underway next month in the Uganda.
