FUFA Open Disciplinary Proceedings Against Maroons

FUFA Disciplinary panel is looking into whether Maroons fielded an ineligible player during their game against Vipers.

Maroons held Vipers to a one all draw in a league game at Luzira on November 22, 2019.

Maroons face the prospect of losing the mentioned game by forfeiture after fielding goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo.

Referee at fault as Vipers Pick Point Off Maroons

Leaders Vipers petitioned FUFA regarding the matter, claiming that Ssebwalunyo was ineligible to feature as he had already received three yellow cards.

FUFA Disciplinary letter to Maroons, seen by this website, reads in part:

“In the view of the above, we would like to draw your attention to the contents of article 29(9) of the FUFA competition rules which establish that “A player who accumulates three bookings in a league and mixed formal competition shall automatically become an illegible player for the next one physically played match.”

In addition, art.19(19) of the FUFA competitions rules establishes that, “A club that fields an ineligible player shall lose the match by forfeiture to the opposing team.”

The club has been given ultimatum of 24 hours to submit a statement in regards to the matter.

“We hereby invite your club to provide us with a statement and or any documentary evidence considered as relevant for the matter within 24 hours.

“Should your club fail to submit a statement within the stipulated time, the FUFA Competitions panel will decide on the case using the file in its possession.”

Maroons ended the regular season in eighth with 20 points but may be deducted a point and three goals, which will consequently be handed to Vipers who currently lead the table with 34 points.
