NBL Finals: UCU Lady Canons Edge JKL In Game One

Wednesday, November 27
*Women: JKL Lady Dolphins 69-71 UCU Lady Canons
*Men: City Oilers 59-67 UCU Canons

UCU Lady Canons squeezed past JKL Lady Dolphins by the skin of their teeth to take game one of the best of five Women NBL final at Lugogo.

Tied at 69-69, Abbey Priscilla dropped a late dagger with three seconds to the buzzer to win it for the seven time winners.

Rose Akon led the way with a game high 22 points before adding 17 rebound to complete her double double. Zainah Lokwameri and Sarah Ageno added 11 and nine points.

Stella Oyella (14), Flavia Oketcho (12) and Hope Akello (10) scored in double point figures in a losing effort for the defending champions.

Advantage UCU

The Lady Canons had a shaky start, with Abei making two reckless turnovers under the first minute of the game but the side recovered and lead 17-13 after the first quarter.

The Dolphins won the second quarter 25-20 to hold a slender 38-37 halftime lead thanks to Akello’s nine points in the first half.

Nicholas Natuhereza’s side edged the third quarter 22-19 before sharing the fourth 12-12.

Imanishimwe’s bad day, despite scoring 10 points proved costly. To put it on a weighing scale, she only managed two points in third and fourth quarter combined. The former UCU player shot 3-12 from the field.

JKL were 0-for-9 from beyond the three-point arc in an abysmal performance and will look to do much better in Friday’s game two.
