KCCA will play host to SC Villa in battle of the traditional giants in the StarTimes UPL on Friday at Lugogo.

These are also the most successful clubs in Ugandan football; They share 29 league trophies between themselves – Villa has 16 against KCCA’s 13.

“Villa is our top rival,” said KCCA coach Mike Mutebi on Thursday. “Together with Express, we are the traditional giants.”

“Vipers is one of the merging football clubs, they are trying to centre themselves to be one of the best, It’s also a rivalry of sorts eveytime when they meet one of the three traditional giants because they have been winning of recent.”

KCCA occupy fourth with 26 points, a place and point below third-placed Villa.

KCCA lost to Mbarara City FC in their previous encounter, in game they travelled and played without head coach Mike Mutebi who stayed in Kampala after arriving at Lugogo when the team bus had already left.

This, was KCCA’s third loss of the season. They have lost one more than the entire last season when they fell to Express and URA.

KCCA will be boosted by the return of trio Allan Okello, Mustafa Kizza and Nicholas Kasozi – The latter is a former captain of SC Villa, one of those who have joined KCCA from the Jogoos including Bernard Muwanga.

Youngster Sam Ssenyonjo who has scored two from as many league games will be expected to lead the line while Mike Mutyaba may miss out after missing the last team training on Thursday.

The visitors on the other hand, have been in form of their lives; they have not tasted defeat since falling to Kyetume 1-0 in the league opener.

The side has won their last two league visits – Beating Onduparaka (3-1) and Bright Stars (1-0).

“It’s very possible for us to win the league but that is not our focus right now,” said Villa coach Edward Kaziba who returns from Tanzania. He was with the CECAFA national women football team.

“Our main focus is to take each game at a time and hope to accumulate as many points as possible. We know these are traditional giants but we are going to remain focussed and hope for maximum points.”

Villa has no new injury concern beside target man Bashir Mutanda.

Mike Mutyaba, Allan Kyambadde, Allan Okello and Mustafa Kizza were on target for KCCA in a 4-2 victory at Lugogo. Charles Lwanga and Ambrose Kirya scored for the Jogoos.
