Landry Ndikumana Shoots Lights Out As Oilers Tame UCU

Landry Ndikumana in action for City Oilers.

Game 3
Sunday, December 1
Women: JKL 60-55 UCU (JKL lead 2-1)
Men: UCU 69-79 City Oilers (Oilers lead 2-1)

As the game proceeded, I somehow feared for the smallest man on court Fayed Baale who I thought that at one moment Landry Ndikumana would throw him through the hoop!

The big man was throwing everything inside as he fired on all cylinders. Few bigs can shoot that good.

Landry Ndikumana was in starring role as six time defending champions beat UCU Canons 79-69 in game three to take command of the best of seven series.

The big man who played 36 minutes, garnered a game high 29 points and added seven rebounds to deflate number one seeding UCU who trail the series 2-1 despite winning game one.

Landry, who is averaging 13 points per game, never made a step back or pumped a fake but his shots dropped with ease, and UCU Canons clearly looked clueless on how to stop the Burundian.

He was 11-17 from the field and shot 5-10 from beyond the arc to beat UCU at their own game.

Jimmy Enabu collected 13 points, Ben Komakech and Tony Drilleba added 12 and 11 points respectively but the latter was stretchered off injured. James Okello was 4-10 from the field to collect 9 points.

Enabu was ugly on the line, shooting 5-14 despite reaching double point figures.

UCU started slowly, falling 9-18 after the first 10 minutes and failed to recover despite a strong third quarter and resilience from Baale.

We want to slow them down – Oilers’ Okello

The tricky guard managed 19 points, his best tally since joining UCU this season. Chuma Fadhil and Jerry Kayanga managed 14 and 11 points respectively.

The Men’s series will continue – probably next year – when Oilers return from Basketball Africa League qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda.
