Leading by as many as 14 points after the third quarter, Zainah converted from the three-point range to extend UCU’s advantage to 17 points at the start of the fourth quarter.
Rita Imanishimwe, whose first points came in the last seconds of the third quarter, led JKL’s surge.
The former Lady Canons star scored all JKL’s first 11 points in the last frame before Stella Oyella converted both of her free-throws to reduce the deficit to six points, 49-55, with seven minutes still on time.
After a period of exchange, Evelyn Nakiyingi scored a deep three to make it 61-66 with less than a minute to play but it proved to be the closest JKL sniffed to levelling matters as Zainah made both of her free-throws down the stretch to seal a 61-68 victory.
Imanishimwe and Oyella were the only JKL players to score in double figures, managing 16 each with the latter playing with four personal fouls the whole second half.
JKL were 22% from beyond the arc and were out rebounded 38-56 in a game they collected 10 points off the bench compared to UCU’s 25.
