The Horn of Africa Derby between CECAFA group A teams Somalia and Djibouti ended in a goalless draw at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.
This was the 2019 CECAFA Senior challenge cup opening game in Kampala.
Despite having a big fan base at Lugogo, the Somalia team failed to take command in the game they looked the second best.
Somalia’s best chance saw Ali Adem Muse’s shot at close range deflected out while Hussein Abdikarim Mohammed beat Mohamed Bouurham but goalie Mbonihaukoye came to the rescue.

Djibouti coach Julie Mette who recently helped Djibouti beat Eswatini to qualify for the group stages of the 2021 FIFA World Cup qualifiers noted that his side should have won the game.
“We dominated the game and created many chances and am disappointed not to have won the game today, we had better opportunities and next time we should do better,” said Melle.
Somalia will have their goalkeeper Said Awes Ali to thank after tremendous saves; He denied Ahmed Youssouf from a tight angle, kept out Saleh Bourhan freekick and he easily collected Mohamed Fahoud at close range.
Fahoud also rattled the post after he was put through by Moussa.

Somalia face Uganda on Monday while Djibouti return to action against Burundi on Wednesday.
