CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup defending Champions Kenya started off their tittle defense with a laboured 1-0 win over rivals Tanzania.

Hassan Abdallah’s first half early goal in the fourth minute was enough to give the Harambee Stars an edge past the Kilimanjaro boys in a game played at the Startimes stadium, Lugogo.

Abdallah bundled home after collecting from Kenneth Muguna before firing far past Aishi Salum Manula.

Tanzania’s Taifa stars had their chances to draw the tie including Miraji Madenge free-kick at the box that went over the bar.

Substitute Ditram Nchimbi could have snatched it late for Tanzania in the added minutes but his shot rattled the crossbar.

Goalscorer Abdallah could have doubled Kenya’s lead but tapped over the bar with only a keeper-to-beat.

Bakari Ndondo blocked Muguna’s shot from the goal line to deny Kenya the second.
