The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) committee has suspended Harambee Stars coach Francis Kimanzi, it’s official.

Kimanzi has been suspended for unsporting behaviour during a 2019 CECAFA senior Challenge cup game against Tanzania.

“Mr Kimanzi is suspended from the technical bench for two consecutive matches of this tournament and should not appear anywhere in the stadium while serving the punishment,” reads a statement on CECAFA website.

The statement added that other Kenya team officials have been warned.

Kimanzi is said to have “protested the position of the match officials and chased away the 4th official Mohamad Guedi from the dressing room.”

Kimanzi will miss two group B games against Sudan on Tuesday and Zanzibar on Saturday at Lugogo.

The game, which Kenya won 1-0 thanks to Abdullah Hassan’s fourth minute strike, delayed to kickoff with Kenya threatening not to play.

“The same technical team mobilized the players not to play the match by locking them inside the room over accusation that three Tanzanian players had no valid passports.

“The technical bench also broke the door lock during the protest that delayed the kick off of this match for over 10 minutes.”
