Allan Okello weighed in with a brace as Uganda Cranes beat Somalia 2-0 at Lugogo to move to six points on top of Group A of the CECAFA senior challenge cup.
The Somalis who thronged StarTimes Stadium were loud and clear as they cheered on to their team against the Cranes before Okello happened.
The KCCA midfielder put Uganda in the lead in the 27th minute from long range before doubling the lead with his trademark curler in the 68th minute.
Uganda could have scored more but they had two chances cleared off the line; Somalia goalkeeper denied Fahad Bayo’s tap in off Okello’s cut-back pass while Guled Ahmed cleared Nicholas Kasozi’s header off Mustafa Kizza’s corner.
Substitute Viane Ssekajugo had a big chance but shot direct at the keeper.
Anukani had a weak chip that was easily collected while Shafic Kagimu fired wide from close range as Cranes craved for more against Somalia who had put up commendable resistance.
Somalia possessed the ball well but fluffed inside the final third. They had a chance to benefit from lost possession by John Revita but Yousef Abduleziz shot direct at Charles Lukwago.
Uganda will face Eritrea on Wednesday and Djibouti on Sunday.
