The second round of the 2019/20 StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) will kickoff in the first week of January, UPL CEO Bernard Bampaire Bainamani has confirmed.
Unlike the previous seasons, Bainamani commented that the urgency was triggered because of the forthcoming 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).
The upcoming tourney, where local based players are used, set in Cameroon from 4 to 25 April 2020, will require the league to break off.
Consequently, the UPL Secretariat wants the league to have ended before CHAN.
“The league will kickoff possibly in the first week of January,” Bainamani said while speaking to the press on Monday morning at Kati Kati.
“We just have few obstacles here and there especially with the confirmation of the venues to be used. We intend to have the league done before the upcoming CHAN in Cameroon.”
It’s believed that FUFA Licensing committee will inspect Wankulukuku and Namboole – The venues which were banned from hosting league games towards the end of the first round.
