CECAFA: Kenya Overcome Sudan To Reach Semis

*Sudan 1-2 Kenya
*Tanzania Vs Zanzibar – 4PM

Kenya needed to come from a goal down to overcome Sudan 1-2 and consolidate their place at the top of group of B to reach the semis of the ongoing 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge cup at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.

Muhammed Namir’s goal at the half-hour gave Sudan an halftime lead but the effort proved to be a consolation against Kenya who missed banned coach Francis Kimanzi.

Substitute Hassan Abdallah levelled matters for the Harambee Stars in the 64th minute when he headed in a well weighed freekick by Kenneth Miguna for his second goal of the tourney.

Towering striker Oscar Wamalwa gave the defending Champions all the maximum points when he connected home Timothy Otieno’s low cross in the 76th minute.

Sudan contested what proved to be Kenya’s winner, claiming that their custodian Mohammed Abdallah was fouled in the process but the referee stuck to his original decision much to the delight of Kenya.

Kenya, under assistant coach Zedekiah ‘Zeco’ Otieno, had two goals correctly ruled out for offside including a beauty from Lawrence Juma’s tap-in from David Owino’s cross as Kenya walked the ball in the net.

Sudan had a late chance to level matters but goalkeeper Samuel Odhiambo kept out Younis Mounir’s weak chip.

Kenya will face Zanzibar on Saturday while Sudan who drew one-all with Zanzibar in their opener, will have to beat Tanzania to have a chance of reaching the semis.
