*Tanzania 1-0 Zanzibar

Ditram Nchimbi was on target, with his lone strike proving enough as Tanzania edged Zanzibar in a regional derby in the 2019 CECAFA senior challenge cup at StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.

Nchimbi scored in the 37th minute, slotting home after goalkeeper Suleiman Ahmed had spilled Eliuter Herman Mpepo’s shot from the right flank.

Zanzibar had chances to take the lead but Abbas Mudathiri Yahya fired wide on two occasions.

Zanzibar’s Hamis Abalkassim Suleiman headed direct at custodian Aishi Salum Manula off Mgwali Mwinyi Ali’s freekick.

Mwinyi also could have scored from a direct freekick, but Aishi was equal to the effort.

Ali Ali Hamad made a run inside the box but his resultant effort deflected for a corner as Zanzibar tried to fight back.

Tanzania who enjoyed most of the possession, had Jonas Gerald Mkunde fire wide from close range while Athuman Madenge Miraji. Herman Mpempo had a back-heel flick over the bar off Mwaita Salehe Madenge’s cross.

Tanzania, in second place with three points, face Sudan while Zanzibar will play Kenya on Saturday.
