Uganda Cranes will seal their place in the Semifinals of the 2019 CECAFA senior challenge cup if they pick at least a point off Eritrea on Wednesday at Lugogo.
Leading a five-team group A with six points, the Cranes who beat Burundi and Somalia will be the odds favorite against Eritrea.
However, Eritrea will not be a walk in the park; the side played an exciting blend of football to beat Burundi 1-0 in their first game.
Robel Kidane scored the only goal for the Red Sea boys and could have won by a bigger margin in a match they dominated proceedings.
With Eritrea’s speedy attacking style of play, Uganda’s probable backline of Paul Willa, Mustafa Kizza, John Revita and Captain Halid Lwaliwa might have a long day on duty.
Allan Okello will once again be the source of inspiration, after the youngster scored a double as Uganda beat Somalia.
However, Jonathan Mckinstry is expected to ring changes to the team that faced Somalia.
“The schedule for matches is very difficult for our players. Playing two games in three days is a little bit difficult. Our players had tired legs and tired minds that affected quite a number of opportunities which came our way but on any other day we would have scored more than today,” Mckinstry said after the Somalia game.
“We largely dominated the game and we deserved the win. Two in two games gives us a good foundation to move on in the tournament.”
Goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa, Musitafa Mujuzi, Paul Mbowa and Steven Mukwala are yet to receive minutes.
After Eritrea, Uganda face Djibouti on Sunday in their last group B game.
