Uganda Cranes and KCCA FC attacking midfielder Allan Okello has been named the 2019 Airtel FUFA player of the year.
Okello won the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, the FUFA Super Cup and the CECAFA Kagame Cup and was part of the Cranes team that qualified for the 2020 Championship of African Nations (CHAN).
He beat Proline’s Bright Anukani and KCCA FC teammate Mustafa Kizza to the accolade which was previously won by Moses Waiswa last year.
“I am very excited today. I was here last year and I was second I think but now…. I want to thank coach Bob in Lira, coach Abdallah who brought me to KCCA from Kibuli and Coach Mike who has given us the young ones a chance to play. I dedicate this award to my late mum, RIP,” said an emotional Okello.
Juliet Nalukenge won the same accolade in the Women’s category, edging Hassifa Nassuna and Daisy Nakaziro.
Nalukenge helped Kawempe Muslim to win both the national and East Africa Secondary Schools’ championship.
She captained Uganda to winning the COSAFA U17 Championship and emerging as the tournament top scorer with 18 goals.
Nalukenge was the CECAFA Women’s Challenge Cup top scorer for Uganda with 5 goals.
Notably, she has scored 53 goals for school, club and country in 2019.
