Striker Fahad Bayo scored late in the game to hand Uganda Cranes a laboured 1-0 win against neighbors Tanzania Kilimanjaro Boys in a closely contested semifinal of the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.
Bayo scored an header off a lofty Mustafa Kiiza’s delivery to send the Cranes through, and book a date with Eritrea in what promises to be a pulsating final on Thursday.
Earlier in the first stanza of the game Fahad Bayo would have put cranes in the lead but his efforts were kept away by goal keeper Aishi Salum Manula before Bright Anukani fired over the bar from close range.
Eleuter Herman Mpepo came close to finding the opener for Tanzania but his efforts were kept away by Cranes keeper Charles Lukwago while Hassan Salehe Dilunga shot over the bar.
Bayo missed a tap in from Kizza cross, Allan Okello was also off the target while Shafic Kagimu was easily saved .
The Kirimanjaro Stars kicked off the second stanza with a high tempo game but Nickson Clement Kibabage shot was well collected by Lukwago.
Cranes thought they had got a penalty but the referee changed the decision when the linesman said that Joachim Ojera was fouled outside the box.
