Eritrea defied odds to beat defending champions Kenya Harambee Stars in the semi to book their first ever CECAFA senior challenge cup final in the country’s history.

The horn of Africa country awaits winner between Uganda and Tanzania in the final.

Oscar Wamalwa scored in his won net to put Eritrea ahead in the 20th minute before Abel Solomon Okbay scored at restart to double the advantage after Kenyan keeper had moved miles off his line.

Wamalwa, two minutes later halved the deficit but goals from Michael Habte Gebremesqel and Robel Kidane put the game beyond reach.

“Am pleased with my players performance,” said Kenya coach Francis Kimanzi. “The only negative thing is that we conceded four goals despite winning all our three games to top a tough group. The boys played well but it was not our day.”

Eritrea coach Alemseghed Efrem Haille commented that his team deserved the victory, and was pleased with the whole display against a good Kenya side. He added that they have the ability to win in the final as well.
