The 2019 18th Edition of Association of Uganda University games (Inter University Games) came to an end with Ndejje defending their tittle and thier 6th consecutive title after declared overall winners from 17 sporting discipline that were competed in by 18 University.
A five day event hosted at University of Kisubi started last Monday, saw Ndejje University emerginng overall winners after collecting a total number of 18 medals, which includes 10 gold medals, 7 silver and 1 bronze.
Uganda Christian University finished second with 17 medals, 10 gold, 6 Silvers and 2 bronze and Makerere University Finished third with 20 medals which includes 6 gold medals, 7 silver and 7 Bronze.
In his closing remarks, the chief guest, Chancellor University of Kisubi Rev. Bro. Peter Kazekulya thanked all the students and universities that participated and urged the Organisers (AUUS) to continue with such initiative.
“To the students from various Universities i thank you who for working very hard, a big congratulations to you the winners because you are main reason why we are here,” Rev. Bro Peter Kazekulya.
“I continue to encourage all University and AUUS to continue with such competition because it discovers a lot of talents.”
On behalf of the government, Ass. General Secretary National Council of Sports David Katende pledged to continue funding and support University Sports
“We as a government we take these University Sports seriously because we believe that this is one of the deadrock of our national teams and as government we are committed to support university sports,as you we have already demostrated it,” Katende said.
“Recently we had enhancement of sports funding and president asked us to prioritize some sports federation and University Sports was one of those 8 we prioritise for enhanced funding and i want to commit again that as government we shall continue to support you as one of our priority areas that needs government support.”
