KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi says his decision to omit Allan Okello and Mustafa Kizza in the squad against Mbarara City FC had nothing to do with the transfer speculation of the duo.

Okello and Mustafa missed KCCA’s 1-0 laboured win against Mbarara City FC, and the gaffer retaliated that the duo are sidelined with injuries.

“Okello is down with Malaria while Kizza has a groin problem,” Mutebi told the press after the 1-0 win. “Their fate is that they are still KCCA players until further notice.”

“You should stop this grapevine talk. Always get the answers. We still have the objective of defending the league and shall play with the players available, we have 28 players including Okello and Mustafa.”

The two stars, have been the spotlight with growing speculations of a move abroad after they strongly refused to renew their contracts due expiry at the end of the season.

KCCA FC Breaks Mbarara Hoodoo

KCCA needed a second half header from substitute Filbert Obenchan to edge bogey side Mbarara at Lugogo.

“We missed several chances. This was a well structured team defensively, they were not kicking legs but they made it difficult for us to penetrate them and did it very well,” commented Mutebi.

“But in the end, we managed to get the win, though our forwards remained careless.”

This was KCCA’s first win against Mbarara in top flight from as many as six games. The Ankole lions won the reverse fixture 2-1 at Kakyeka.

“I would not make it a so important win, it’s part of the marathon for us. We want to beat every one that comes in our path.”

The victory pushed KCCA to 35 points, a point adrift of leaders Vipers who host Kyetume at Kitende on Friday.
