City Oilers will welcome back shooting guard Tonny Drilleba when they face UCU Canons in game four of the NBL final series.

The guard missed Oilers’ Basketball Africa League campaign and the six time league championships lost 57-74 to Ferroviario Maputo in the third place game to miss out on the spot in the inaugural tourney in Kigali.

“It feels great. I missed being out there on the floor with my brothers,” said Drilleba.

“Everyone understands that the chapter in Kigali ended, and there is nothing we can do about that.

“But we also understand that us winning this final gives us another opportunity to play for qualification to BAL later this year. So that’s where all our focus is.”

Oilers will seek to defend their crown, and with another chance to return for BAL Qualifiers at stake, the team is more hungrier.

Coached by Mandy Juruni, Oilers beat UCU 79-69 to lead 2-1 in the best of seven series.

“The team is filled with players that are very proud,” added Drilleba. “Everyone knows how tough it is to get to the final. So we take every game, half and quarter very seriously. Because the work we put in the entire year comes down to this.”
