Juliet Nalukenge’s early strike and a late Catherine Nagadya’s header sealed Uganda’s U17 girls 2-0 victory in the first leg of the first preliminary round of FUFA U17 Women World Cup qualifiers at Startimes Stadium, Lugogo.

In the 5th minute, captain Juliet Nalukenge put Uganda in the driving seat with a beautiful header at the far post from Fauzia Najjemba’s headed pass.

The girls came close to doubling the lead but Kunihira Margret’s close shot went wide.

Nalukenge missed another opportunity when she headed few inches wide off the far post.

Ethiopia’s first clear chance came in the 35th minute but were denied by a crossbar from a well taken free-kick

The visitors continued to have a fair share of the ball and pushed forward but proved blunt in the final third.

In the 86th minute, Substitute Nagadya who had replaced Nandago Hadijja, doubled the lead with a header thanks to another Fauzia Najjemba’s assist.

The return leg will be played on January 26th this and winner from both legs, will face the winner between Tanzania or Burundi in the second preliminary round.
