Uganda To Use Bilateral Series As World Cup U19 Preps

“We are looking forward to playing at the World Cup,” said young cricket Maria Kagoya who will be leading a select side at the bilateral series. The dream is valid.

All is set for the U19 T20 Cricket Women bilateral series that start from January 13-17 at Kyambogo Cricket Oval.

The series will be played between hosts Uganda and visitors Tanzania with the host nation being represented by two teams including a selected side.

Uganda Cricket Association CEO Martin Ondeko said that they are using the tourney as an opportunity to prepare the team for the forthcoming qualifiers for the inaugural U19 women World cup in 2021.

“With the creation of the an U19 girls world cup next year, it shows you the new direction the international body has taken,” started Ondeko.

“This tourney will kick start our preps, its a welcoming tourney for all of us and we thank Tanzania for coming. We would like to have many teams but at the end of the day, when Cricket is played, everyone is a winner.”

Uganda’s national team will be coached by Ivan Kakande and Naomi Kayondo while the select side will be under the tutelage of Yusuf Nanga.

This tourney serves as a consolation for both countries after the cancelation of the Africa U19 girls Tourney that was supposed to be held last year in December in Kampala.

Uganda Coaches Positive – What they said:

Ivan Kakande – We have been working hard ever since last year. This is a good tourney for the girls. Tanzania will give us a good challenge.

Yusuf Nanga – Its a good tourney for the girls, we are looking for talent. We hope the girls will enjoy. My team comprises of girls who are willing to compete. And we hope the trophy will stay in the country.
