Tuesday, January 14
*SC Villa 0-1 Busoga
*Bright Stars 2-1 KCCA FC
*Onduparaka FC 1-1 Maroons
*Proline 2-4 Vipers

Bright Stars shocked defending champions KCCA FC to win 2-1 on match-day 17 of the StarTimes UPL at Kavumba Recreation centre.

Goals from Joseph Janjali and Ronald Ssempala gave Paul Kiwanuka maximum points while Muzamiru Mutyaba’s strike proved to be a consolation.

In an entertaining game, both sides missed a couple of players due to licensing issues.

This is Bright Stars second consecutive win in the league and their overall as the club moved 12th with 16 points.

Coached by Paul Kiwanuka, the win is a revenge best served for the Stars who left Lugogo hard done by in the first round when Ronald Ssempala’s goal was wrongly canceled out.

Janjali taped in a Kayanja cross to give hosts an early lead inside the first minute of the game.

Samuel Kato came close to levelling matters but had his header go over the bar off a Herbert Achai cross.

Bright Stars had another go at goal but Brian Kayanja’s shot was easily collected by Jamil Malyamungu.

Striker John Odumegwu had his free header over the bar off an Achai free kick while Andrew Kaggwa had Muzamiru’s efforts kept away as KCCA kept pressuring for an equaliser.

Muzamiru’s surge paid off, got KCCA FC the equalizer at the stroke of half time when he received from Erisa assekisambu in a build up from Achai corner.

KCCA’s Mike Mutyaba had his shot off the target after beating Juma Ssebadduka and Janjali had his header off a Jamil Kalisa cross kept away by John Revita at the other end.

In the 77th minute, a shortly after his introduction, Ssempala restored Bright Stars lead from a counter attack when he exchanged passes with Kalisa.

Bright Stars who beat BUL earlier, will be seeking to continue their winning spree when they visit URA FC on match-day 18.

KCCA FC have now lost four games this season, two more than the previous season and are seven points behind run-away leaders Vipers before facing Tooro.
