*Mbarara City 1-0 Wakiso Giants
Mbarara City beat Wakiso Giants 1-0 win on match-day 17 of the StarTimes UPL at Bombo Military grounds.
Brian Aheebwa’s 79th minute strike, his fourth goal of the season, proved to be the difference as the Ankole lions handed former boss Livingston Mbabazi his second consecutive loss at his new side.
But in general, it was a rusty display from both sides, without ‘punch’ in a game characterised by few chances.
Goalkeeper Derrick Emukule kept the score level in the first half when he pulled classic saves to deny Aheebwa and Solomon Okwalinga.
Wakiso’s top chance saw Lawrence Bukenya’s shot crawl off target in the 16th minute.
In the second half, Mbarara returned rejuvenated and came close to scoring but Swalik Bebe’s header was kept out by Emukule into the corner.
Wakiso’s only shot on target in the entire game, came from substitute Tom Masiko who replaced Ivan Kiweewa, with his 40-yard effort taken out by Tom Ikara.
Aheebwa’s goal came in the 79th minute, made a beautiful turn after receiving from Jude Semugabi, before directing a fierce shot with his right foot into the left corner.
A win sees Mbarara move to 8th with 22 points where they have leapfrogged Wakiso Giants who have slipped to 9th with 20 points.
Next for Mbarara is a trip to Jinja in their next match to play Busoga United while Wakiso is hosting Onduparaka next Saturday.
