*Maroons 2-0 BUL
Maroons FC beat BUL FC 2-0 on match-day 18 of the StarTimes UPL at Luzira to scoop their first win of the second round.
Fred Amaku and Steven Mukwala were the men on target as Maroons handed BUL its third straight loss of second round.
After first 15 minutes of BUL FC dominance, Maroon who later gained momentum made the best use of their first chance created to take the lead.
Abraham Tusubira had his shot deflected into a corner which Amaku headed home at far post in the 25th minute.
The Prison warders had a chance to double the lead immediately but Emmanuel Olinga who was unmarked shot over the bar after all that donkey work done by Mukwala before delivering that cross.
In 42nd minute, Mukwala doubled the lead from a penalty spot after he was tripped in the area by Ramathan Dudu.
The hosts started second stanza on high, which saw them miss two back to back clear chances of Timothy Balanzeki who shot at the side net before Bronson Nsubuga missed to tap in an empty net after Mukwala’s perfect dribbles which left BUL backline including goalkeeper gasping air
BUL’s only two first half chances came in the first 15 minutes of the game and were presented to Robert Mukongotya who tried his luck from a wide but his shot was well captured by Hannington before Denis Okot Oola shooting far over the bar.
Just at the the start of second stanza, Peter Onen made double substitution of Hamis Tibita and Simon Peter Oketch who replaced new signing Vitalis Tabu and Robert Mukongotya respectively but the move didn’t pay off to save the side from a third consecutive win.
However the substitutes tried to mount a lit bit of pressure to hosts’ defence.
Maroons goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo parried out two clear shots by Musa Esenu into corner kick before Richard Wandyaka’s bicycle kick went far wide.
The visitors didn’t only loose the game but they also got a blow when Walter Ochola was sent off for a second yellow card after a foul on Mukwala Steven.
A win has lifted Maroons up to 8th with 22 points where they have leapfrogged Mbarara who lost to Busoga today.
